Meet Color Equivalent Landscape Painter: Donna Sands

Donna Sands has been painting professionally for the last 16 years. Her current painting style was inspired by the work of renowned artist Wolf Kahn. Mentored by local artist Rodger Bechtold, who studied with Kahn, she embraced the Color Equivalent Movement.

“I represent the harmony that exists in nature and find an equivalent color to use in the scenes on my canvases. I prefer to paint the unaltered, rugged terrain rather than the well kept garden or park. Through Bechtold, I have learned the importance of starting my pieces on location to capture the essence of what I am viewing in quick color studies, following up in the studio to create my larger paintings.”

Donna also coordinates the Lake County Visiting Artists Program which brings together local artists and grade school students providing a unique art experience fostering personal expression and self-esteem growth. For more information about this program you may contact Donna at donnasands@att.net.
